Robert and Magnus Phillips formed the firm in 1839, at No. 31 Cockspur Street, London. In 1869, the firm changed its name to ‘Phillips Brothers & Son’. Robert Phillips was the leading partner, and the only English jeweller to be awarded the highest award of a gold medal at the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition. Known for taking inspiration from historic styles, such as Renaissance, Byzantine, and Greek, clients included the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), and his maker’s mark later incorporated the Prince of Wales Feathers, reflecting this prestigious patronage.
