J.W. Benson

Watchmakers by family trade since 1749, in 1847, the company J.W. Benson was founded by James William Benson and Samuel Stuckley Benson. The London based company was held in high regard primarily for their watch and clock making skills, however they did also produce fine jewellery.

During the 19^th century, J.W. Benson held a number of royal warrants, including being watchmakers to the Tsar of Russia, Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales and was the watchmaker to the Admiralty. The company finished trading in 1973 when the name was reputedly sold to Garrards, the Royal jewellers.
