Some of the most iconic outfits worn by Diana, Princess of Wales are currently on display at Kensington Palace this month with large crowds queuing to view the exhibition entitled Diana: Her Fashion Story. As the people’s Princess, Diana’s ensembles made headlines internationally, introducing British designers to the world stage. Whether she donned her favourite Emanuel, Bruce Oldfield or Catherine Walker her championing of British fashion continues to inspire women decades later. Each carefully selected outfit was always paired with fabulous jewels gifted or borrowed by Diana from the Spencer or Royal family collections.

Featured in every glamourous outing is Diana’s twelve carat sapphire and diamond coronet cluster engagement ring. Probably one of the most famous engagement rings in the world, Diana is said to have personally chosen this ring from a selection at Garrard Jewellers. Throughout the years her sapphire collection grew with matching coronet cluster earrings given to her by Prince Charles, an exquisite sapphire and diamond suite presented to her as a wedding gift from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and a large sapphire and double row coronet cluster brooch gifted to her by the Queen Mother which she had made into a pearl choker.

The sapphire, diamond and pearl choker was a favourite of the Princess and was worn during her visit to the White House in November of 1985 where she famously danced with the actor John Travolta. The famed midnight blue velvet, Victor Edelstein, off the shoulder dress she coupled with her choker is set to be one of the highlights of the Kensington Palace Exhibition open until 28th February 2018.
