Description

Victorian converted button ring. Centrally set with one cushion shape old mine diamond in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 0.70 carats, encircled by six cushion shape old mine diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined weight of 3.00 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 3.70 carats, to an impressive coronet cluster design featuring six kite shape enamel details to the border supported by an intricately pierced scrolling open work bezel and open backholing, flanked by ornate trumpeting shoulders with black enamel to the centre which terminate before flowing though to a solid D-shape shank. Tested 18 carat yellow gold, English, circa 1880.

The head of this ring was originally a button but converted into a ring in the same period. Diamond set buttons were worn by the elite of society.
