Description

Tudor table cut diamond ring. Set with a diamond shape table cut old mine diamond in a closed back rubover setting with an approximate weight of 1.00 carats, to a square raised pie-dish bezel setting, each surface with intricate engraved detailing, including the rounded underside of the bezel, flanked by smoothly conforming shoulders which continue through to the solid slim court shape shank which is incised with scrolling curlicues around the full circumference, each engraved area of the ring with traces of original black enamel. Tested yellow gold, approximately 4g in weight, circa 16th century, accompanied by an Oxford Labs X-ray fluorescence report stating the composition of the metal.

The detailing of this ring is exquisite and is a rare example of a 16th century ring set with a large diamond. See Victoria and Albert Museum acquisition number 935-1871 for a ring of comparable composition.
