Saxon five bar braided ring. A smoothly conforming yellow gold ring composed of five twisted gold wires of varying sizes, joined together with a broad beaten gold plaque, approximately 8mm in width. Tested yellow gold, approximately 7g in weight, circa 6th-9th century AD.
The twisted bands of this ring, each wound in the opposite direction, create a chevron or herringbone effect which was particularly favoured by the Saxons. This ring is very fine in its detail and is in excellent condition, commensurate with its age.
