Description

Medieval iconographic finger ring in silver gilt, 15th - early 16th century. The bezel triangular in section and engraved with textured panels comprising a geometric design of diagonal lines, triangles and grooved patterns. The shoulders, separated from the bezel by two wide channels, have similar decoration, leading to a stepped chevron graduating to a narrower solid shank. Silver gilt, 7.27 grams in weight, 15th - 16th century.

Following a form usually employed on iconographic finger rings, this ring is rare in having purely geometric decoration.

Found in Woodford, Salisbury, Wiltshire, accompanied by supporting documentation from the British Museum declaring it as treasure with full report including detailed description, research and photographs.
