Georgian memorial skull ring. A gold D-shape shank, engraved to the exterior with a stylised skull, decoratively enhanced with traces of black enamel, the interior inscribed 'Tho Foley Esq : obt :7 : oct : 77', approximately 3.5mm in width. Tested yellow gold, maker's mark 'SR', circa 1777.
This ring was made to commemorate Thomas Foley, 1st Baron Foley, who was a British politician. He was a descendant of Thomas Foley one the great ironmasters of the Midlands.
