Description

Gold case by Fabergé. An 18 carat gold case with invisible hinged lid, the short ends rounded, the top and bottom engraved with a pattern of rays emanating from the front central raised latch set with one oval cabochon natural unenhanced sapphire with an approximate weight of 0.50 carats, with matte gold interior, approximately 207.9g in weight. Marked 8 carat yellow gold, maker's mark for Karl Fabergé (KF in cyrillic), Russian, circa 1900.

There are two highly similar Fabergé cigarette cases in the British Royal Collection, one of which was said to be the favourite cigarette case of Tsar Nicholas II (both pictured in 'Fabergé in the Royal Collection', cat.s 188, 189).
