Description

Byzantine pearl and yellow gold earrings. A matching pair, each set to centre with a round natural unenhanced pearl bead, two in total, in a closed back setting, further adorned by a pearl bead finial, two in total in a closed back setting, to an articulated drop earring flowing with movement, featuring a ridged gold work design, fitted to reverse with a secure original S-shape hook fitting, approximately 2.5cm in length to top of hook. Tested yellow gold, approximately 2.96g in weight, circa 7th-9th century AD. Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world.
