Antique turquoise and pearl locket memorial ring. The circular bezel is set with one central cabochon turquoise in a closed back grain setting, encircled by six pearls and six smaller cabochon turquoises all in closed back cutdown settings, the locket opening to reveal a glass covered compartment containing a lock of brown hair, flanked by split shoulders set with four pearls and two cabochon turquoises all in closed back cutdown settings, and on a ridged tapered shank, the reverse of the bezel engraved, ‘BA Thomson/ Obt 10 Mar/ 1837’. Tested yellow gold, circa 1837, accompanied by a black leather box marked ‘POILE & SMITH/ JEWELLERS & SILVERSMITHS/ 520 OXFORD STREET/ LONDON.’.
