Antique rose cut diamond solitaire ring. Set with an oval rose cut diamond in a closed back claw and rubover setting, with an approximate weight of 1.40 carats, to a raised openwork collet with fine black enamel highlights and decorative scroll and foliate motifs, the integrated shoulders taper to a D-shape shank with ribbed details. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, French control marks, circa 1800.

Rings are one of the most powerful and evocative pieces of jewellery. In its most rudimentary form, a ring is a simple band, composed of any material from bone, wood, glass to precious metal, which encircles the finger.
