Antique diamond spray brooch. Set with one hundred and fifty eight round old cut diamonds in an open back cutdown and grain settings with an approximate combined weight of 15.00 carats, to a magnificent swirling floral spray shape cluster with intricate pierced backholing and a secure pin brooch fitting to reverse. Tested gold and silver, Germany, circa 1880.
Late nineteen century diamond brooches often conformed to a sophisticated and highly effective "flower spray" design. Tasteful and wearable today, such jewels were invariably mounted with silver settings and are extremely rare nowadays.
