Description

Ancient Roman ring set with green agate. Set with a hexagonal green agate in a closed back rubover collet setting within a hexagonal gold frame, to broad integrated shaped shoulders and flowing through to a solid tapering keeled shank. Tested yellow gold, approximately 5.3g in weight, circa 2nd-4th century AD.

See Ruseva-Slokoska, L. 'Roman Jewellery', Sofia, 1991, item 203 for a ring of similar form. Rings of this overall shape have been found across the Roman Empire from Rome to Gaul, Austria to Cardiff.
