Ancient Roman gold and glass bead necklace. A gold necklace strung with twenty one glass beads of varying colour, size and shape, evenly spaced between fine double loop links, to a secure hook and eye fastening, approximately 14.5" in length. Tested yellow gold, approximately 3.8g in weight, circa 2nd century AD.
This necklace is of the 'hormoi' type - composed of gold wire links threaded with glass or bone beads. To see a further necklace of this style, see Ruseva-Slokoska, L., 'Roman Jewellery', Sofia, 1991, item 103. This necklace is in very fine condition, commensurate with its age.
