Description

Ancient Roman fede betrothal ring. A yellow gold ring composed of an elliptical plaque featuring two hands clasped in a handshake within a twisted ropework border, leading to trumpeting shoulders with beaded detail and flowing through to a tapering flat shank. Tested yellow gold, circa 1st-3rd century AD.

This ring is the earliest example of a fede ring we have come across, and in turn is one of the earliest marriage rings we have seen. This ring is in fine condition with beautiful patina.
