Description
Ancient Roman cornelian signet ring, 2nd to 3rd century AD. Cornelian
intaglio engraved with a hand holding corn. Roman set to a
closed back with ornately carved wide shoulders. The image is more than likely, Ceres the Roman Goddess of agriculture and fertility (in Greek, Demeter), she is normally portrayed holding ears of corn downwards in her right hand. Mounted and set in yellow gold.
