Antique amethyst signet ring in yellow gold, circa 1890. A yellow gold ring set with a cushion shaped amethyst intaglio in a collet setting with an approximate weight of 10.00 carats, carved with a full length profile of Hercules with a club and wearing a lion skin, on a wide tapered shank.
This depiction of Hercules was most likely inspired by a statue from the fourth century BC found in the 18th century in the ruins of the villa of the Roman emperor Hadrian at Tivoli outside Rome.
